Cescon Barrieu announces new practice area and six new partners

Cescon Barrieu announces six new partners. They place the firm into a whole new area – in economic criminal law that is now led by Yuri Sahione Pugliese, and strengthen their Technology, Litigation, Due Dilligence and Corporate/ M&A areas – teams that now have as partners Luiz Felipe Di Sessa, Mauricio Fabbri, Isabela Coelho, Fernanda Montorfano and Luciana Mares.

Yuri Sahione joins along with Luciano Souza a new area of Compliance, White-Collar Crime and Investigations. With over 16 years of experience in economic crimes, compliance and sanctioning law, Sahione has acted in cases of major national repercussion as well as international legal cooperation. His practice involves the implementation of integrity programs, internal investigations, customer representation and interests in IPCs, investigations, criminal prosecutions, sanctioning administrative proceedings, and administrative misconduct actions. Sahione assists clients in a wide range of industries, including energy, oil and gas, shipping, real estate and construction, banking and capital markets, healthcare, life sciences, hospitality, food, sports and entertainment, logistics, education and services, being recognized as one of the most admired lawyers in the country. His entry not only strengthens the compliance office, but also play a great role in expanding Cescon Barrieu’s service offers on complex and strategic issues. Yuri is chairman of the OAB Compliance Committee, Elected Counselor of OAB / RJ and professor of undergraduate courses at renowned institutions such as FGV, PUC, ISE Business School, among others.

Luiz Felipe Di Sessa, is an Intellectual Property specialist with extensive experience in contracts and legal advice for information technology issues, will lead the way in answering to the technological issues of large companies as well as fintechs and startups. Counting on a multidisciplinary team in Tax, Labor, Corporate / M&A, Capital Markets, Banking and Litigation, they will be focusing on advising on issues such as 5G, IoT, Software, SAS, Big Data and AI.

Maurício Fabbri, reinforces our Litigation and Arbitration area and brings together his know-how in Digital Law, adding up to our strategy in answering to issues regarding IT.

Isabela Coelho leads our Corporate Law and Due Diligence area, reinforcing our pioneering position in the legal market by having a dedicated structure in this area. As a specialized expert, Isabela will assist our clients in M&A, commercial contracts, financial contracts, insurance, civil litigation, labor, corporate, tax, ANVISA, ANEEL, Education, real estate, mining and environmental.

Fernanda Montorfano and Luciana Mares reinforce our already recognized Corporate and M&A team, both specialized in public companies. Fernanda acts in advisory and administrative litigation
involving the Brazilian Securities Commission and the National Financial System Appeals board, corporate restructuring involving publicly held companies, corporate disputes and Corporate Governance. Luciana, in turn, represents our clients in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, public offerings, reorganizations and other corporate transactions, involving various sectors of the economy.

Based in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the six new team members will also work with the group of professionals in Brasilia, Belo Horizonte and Salvador. With this expansion Cescon Barrieu now has 46 partners compared to 35 at the end of 2018.
