Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) sets new standards for dams and piles

The Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) published new rules applicable to dams and piles, which address the following topics: (i) NBR No. 13,028 – development and presentation of dam projects for tailings disposal, sediment containment, and water reserve; (ii) NBR No. 13,029 – development and presentation of projects for the placement of overburdens in piles; (iii) NBR No. 17,188 – hypothetical rupture analysis in dams; and (iv) NBR No. 17,189 – dam instrumentation.
