Cescon Barrieu announces Joaquim Oliveira as head of Banking, Finance and Capital Markets practices, and four new partners
Joaquim de Oliveira, one of our founders, returns to the firm after two years as a partner at financial advisory firm Seneca Evercore to lead our Banking, Finance and Capital Markets practices, together with Vitor Arantes; Frederico Calmon, expert in CVM Regulatory and funds, has been promoted to partnership; and Ravel Carvalho, who has just completed a period at the American firm White & Case LLP, also joins the team as a partner.
Also in the transactional division, Thenard Figueiredo returns as a partner in Corporate and M&A after completing an LL.M at Duke University and working at Cleary Gottlieb. Marília Ravazzi arrives to expand the Labor division, as the 4th partner in the practice.
These movements are part of the firm’s growth and internationalization strategy. With the five new names, Cescon Barrieu now have 73 partners.
Multidisciplinary and Complementary Profiles – Founder of Cescon Barrieu and managing partner between 2018 and 2023, Joaquim has extensive experience in complex financial and capital markets operations, debt restructuring and insolvency and a unique profile to lead the debt restructuring and negotiation area. Recognized as one of the leading names in banking, finance, and capital markets law, in recent years, he has had a prominent role in debt restructuring and special situations operations, including mergers and acquisitions and corporate reorganizations. In addition to re-assuming relevant clients and ongoing cases at the firm, he will also join the Board of Directors.
Frederico Calmon brings regulatory expertise in capital markets, funds, financial innovation products and complex corporate restructurings. He represents public companies, administrators and fund managers, brokers and other national and foreign participants in regulatory matters and administrative proceedings in CVM, ANBIMA, BSM, and CMN.
Ravel Carvalho arrives at the firm with international experience, especially after his work at White & Case LLP in New York, where he closely followed cross-border operations. Ravel will work in capital markets and securitization, focusing on transactions in the infrastructure, energy, real estate and agribusiness sectors.
Also in the internationalization strategy, Thenard Figueiredo, joins the Corporate and M&A team. Fiqueiredo began his career at Cescon 12 years ago and returns as a partner after completing his LL.M. at Duke University and working as an international associate at Cleary Gottlieb. His expertise in cross-border operations, corporate reorganizations, and highly complex corporate litigation will be be a valuable addition to the team and he will also develop the advisory for public companies and the Public M&A practice.
Finally, Marília Ravazzi joins the Labor practice. Ravazzi has a solid experience in labor consulting for national and foreign clients and extensive experience in strategic litigation in individual actions, public civil and collective actions, investigations and administrative procedures of the Labor Public Ministry and the Ministry of Labor and Employment. She also has experience in due diligence for large-scale national and international transactions, complementing the multidisciplinary profile that characterizes the firm’s new partners.
